Marine Corps Stuff: Boxes

Boxes

The Eagle Globe and Anchor (EGA) is the most recognizable symbol of the U.S. Marine Corps.  As such, I like to incorporate the EGA into the boxes I make.  The image is engraved by a laser, and is incredibly detailed.  You have to see it to truly appreciate the level of detail possible.

I am not going to list a set price for one of my boxes.  Because the raised panel boxes are a lot harder to make, and all the variables that come into play (style, size, engraving, finish, cedar lining, vanity box inside, etc.) the best thing to do is contact me by email, and we will discuss your box and all the details and agree to a price, then.  Just as a rule of thumb, full-sized box-jointed blanket boxes will start at $350.  Shipping is usually about $50.00.  Raised panel boxes are a lot more intricate, so they will be more, starting at $450 (again, shipping is another $50).  You get one image at no extra cost on the box-jointed box, and two on the raised panel boxes.  Extra images will be more.  I am willing to accept payments.  You can break it into 3 or 4 payments.  If I get your box done before total payment is received, I will hold the box at no charge until it is paid.

Full-sized Blanketboxes

This box measures 34"L x 22"W x 22"H, with a 3/4" overhang on the front and sides.  The EGA appears on the front two panels.  The back and end panels are bare.  The first two images are included in the cost of the box.  Additional images will be more.  (EGAs are $20, photos of something else will depend on the detail and the scale of the picture).

Keepsake Box #101

This is a keepsake box I made for my co-Administrator of the Marine Moms Online discussion forum. (See the link below)  The box is roughly 16" x 14" x 16", and has an EGA on the lid.  Again, the box was assembled using box (finger) joints made with my router and jig.  The finish is Minwax "Early American" stain and a couple coats of satin gloss polyurethane. This box is large enough to hold commendations in their frame, a photo album, and anything else you might want to keep safe.  These boxes are $125.00, with one image included in the price.

 Album Box #201

I have worked and reworked this image.  This is from the famous photo Joe Rosenthal took of what is actually the second flag going up on Mt Suribachi.  It still doesn't look like the image I had in my head, but it is pretty cool.  Eventually, I am going to do a box that tells the story of the first flag raising, but I still have to gather images for that.

This box has a lot of little parts, and lots of laser work, so I have to charge more than for a box-jointed box.  A box like this with one image is $175.  Additional images are $20 each, if they are images I have created, like the EGA or a unit logo.  Images from photos, like the flag raising, are more detailed, and take longer for the laser to make, so they will probably be another $5-$10 more, each.  It really depends on the detail and size of the image.  I wish I could give hard figures on cost, but it really depends on the image.

The box lid measures 17"L x 15" W.  The box itself is 15 1/2"L x 14 1/4"W.  The total height is 15 1/2".

Compact Disc Box #301

This box was created at the request of an MMO member.  It holds over 20 CDs comfortably, and allows you to place them either vertically or horizontally.  This one has an EGA and "USMC" on the lid.  I can put whatever you want on it, a saying, a photo, a unit logo... whatever your heart desires.  This particular box measures 13 1/2 inches by 8 3/4 inches, with a 3/4 inch lip on the lid.

Urns #401
As the saying goes, Marines don't die, they go to Heaven and regroup.  This box has the Iwo Jima flag-raising on the lid, and "From the Halls of Montezuma..." on the left side, "...to the Shores of Tripoli." on the right side, and the EGA on the front.  The inner dimensions of the box are 8 3/4" L x 6 3/4"W x 5 1/4"H.   Of course, I can make them any size you want, with any image(s) you want.   The box you see is $150.00.  A basic urn with an  image on the lid is $125.00, additional images are $15 each.

Jewelry Boxes #501

These are cute little boxes to store rings and small valuables in.  I have this same box on the civilian side of the site, with a variety of images to choose from.  If you want some other Marine Corps-related image (ex: rank, unit logo, etc.) on a box, just email me and we will figure out what you want and how to do it and how much it will be.  The total price for these boxes is $22.00 w/o a clock, $35.00 w/clock (includes shipping and handling).  Not all boxes can accept a clock (ex: the sample box you see here)  The boxes with clock are slightly taller.

You can also get this box with a unit logo on the lid.  Examples of logos I have ready can be seen here.  If I don't have the one you want already, let me know and I will work on it.
